POP ART IN THE STUDIO
THEME | POP ART PORTRAITS
TECHNIQUE | POP ART PHOTOSHOP EDIT
With this project, I learned how to use the studio. I had to make sure the lighting was good in highlighting the emotion on my subject’s face, since it would have to stand out even against bright colors. The simple background was also important, so that in Photoshop I could easily select and fill it with a solid color. Then, I selected the subject and adjusted the threshold levels until the features were still defined, but contrasting in a grainy B&W. When I took pictures, I knew that I wanted to make a collage so I had to have a variety of expressions and gestures so that the pictures didn’t look the same when placed next to each other. In the final product, two images are using hand gestures, and the faces are all different as well. I think the colors I chose execute the pop art theme, and that the B&W subject stands out with different expressions.
