SUMMER SKIES
THEME | SKY
TECHNIQUE | COMPOSITION AND RULE OF THIRDS
I have always found that lake skies are the best skies, so I shot for this project at Lake Geneva in Wisconsin, and Bair Lake in Michigan. Shooting into the sun, it is important to get the right lighting and have a balance of lights and darks. I like shooting sunrises/sunsets over the water, because the reflection of the sky on the water adds to the element of awe that I, and hopefully my audience, gets from the pictures. I got up at 4am for the sunrise, and within minutes the entire sky changed. I think that the pictures really portray the moment in which they were taken, and are not the typical sky. I like the silhouettes that are incorporated into the pictures, and how the rule of thirds helps to present the sky in a way that incites amazement just by looking at them.
